Writer’s Block

The weakest ink lasts longer than the strongest memory.

Sometimes the ink flows.

But sometimes it’s stuck in the pen.

Full, but nonetheless, dry.

Thoughts crash in thunderous explosions,

Yet it’s all thunder, no rain.

Ideas, memories, laughter, pain,

They come, they go,

Enter, leave,

Flicker, fail.

Nothing sticks, nothing lasts.

Writers Block

Like Alzheimer’s,

Random, continuous thoughts flow,

But nothing connects in logical sequence.

Before a memory is expressed,

The wind catches it’s seed, without root,

And no effort or concentration can make a difference,

As neurotic puffs wisp away the thought to oblivion,

Never to be seen, nor known, again.

And so it is today.

The pen remains silent.

Still.

Dry.

Maybe tomorrow ink will flow.

Maybe.

  1. Oh my goodness – the ink was stuck in my pen for about four weeks. I put stuff out but cringed every time I clicked that little “post” button wanting to apologize to any reader that stopped by. This was clever though! Pretty soon you will have material for a post a day I bet – just got to go with the flow!

  2. I recognize that flattened forehead and nose. And yet, it doesn’t stop us from making another attempt. Slow learner? Not when you’d rather give up almost everything but writing. I figure the block is God’s way of telling me I need to focus on something else I’ve been ignoring. 🙂

  3. You definitely DIDN’T have writer’s block here!!!!! THIS is a metaphoric masterpiece! It captures everything we feel as blocked writers BUT “you” definitely were not blocked the day you wrote this! Probably one of my most favorite things I’ve read here in all the years I’ve been here! THIS needs to be published!!!!
