At The Foot Of The Cross

At the foot of the cross,

Where dirt gives way and rugged wood is revealed,

Where sweat, blood and tears drop from above,

Where laughter, jeers and taunts are heard,

Where only a faithful few remain, overcome in pain as they look on…

At the foot of the cross,

Where the blood mud puddles,

Where evil raises its hands in victory unaware it just lost the war,

Where one death births life for all…

At the foot of the cross,

Where man’s self-serving sinful nature meets God’s self-sacrificing holiness,

Where wounded hearts are healed,

Where wind and storms cannot touch the calm of that ground,

Where time stands still, yet eternity begins its pivotal circle…

At the foot of the cross,

Where simple obedience surpasses all good intentions,

Where giving away the temporary allows receiving the eternal,

Where it does not matter who sees except Who hung there…

At the foot of the cross,

Where kneeling now allows standing later,

Where it is finished, but just begun,

Where forgiveness freely flows at the expense of One,

Where the experience is fully understood, but never adequately explained…

At the foot of the cross,

Where dark meets light, despair meets hope, destruction meets creation,

Disease meets cure, hate meets love, sin meets mercy,

At the foot of the cross,

Where selfishness meets sacrifice, pride meets humility, greed meets generosity,

Lust meets purity, bondage meets freedom, empty meets full,

At the foot of the cross,

Where hurts meet healing, temporal meets eternity, lies meet truth,

Judgment meets forgiveness, where death meets life….

At the foot of the cross,

Where man meets God,

And God changed me.
